Having a perfectly straight edge on your garden beds used to be a thing of much fussing about and finessing as you worked with manual edgers and tools. Now, with the advent of modern technology, it’s easy to keep your grass at bay and in a perfectly straight line. Sure, some people still prefer the manual way – but we believe in doing things efficiently and intelligently.
At GYC Mower Depot, we are proud to stock a range of electric and petrol edgers which are designed to make every element of lawn care and maintenance in your home a breeze. A lawn edger will cut the time you spend looking after your lawn to save you hours in the garden, letting you spend more time doing the things you love.
We have an extensive range of edgers which are geared to offer you an uncomplicated and intelligent lawn edging tool to improve how you care for your lawn.
The Evolution of Lawn Edgers
A lawn edger is a tool that was created to keep excess grass at bay for a defined and manicured border or edge. Your garden edger has evolved a lot since it was first invented as a tool to keep grass at bay.
Overview of lawn edgers
A lawn edger as we know it today is an engine powered machine with a vertical blade which spins and trims the edges of a lawn or pathway. Edgers are useful for keeping those straight lines that we know and love in our backyards and gardens. Before petrol edgers and electric edgers were created, edging was done with a manual device that closely resembled a shovel.
Nowadays we have a range of lawn edgers which are powered by petrol or electricity and are highly useful as time and labour saving devices in your home.
Modern petrol edgers
Nowadays we enjoy machines with rotating blades which are simple to use and highly efficient.
Select petrol powered edgers have wheels that give greater stability, whilst electric edgers usually just have a single guiding wheel.
Modern electric edgers
Using an electric edger means you have a lightweight and quiet solution for your lawn care. The electric edger, while not as powerful as a petrol edger, is a great solution for your home and will operate as far as your power cord will let it!
So long as you have sufficient power, an electric edger is a quiet and convenient option. There aren’t any petrol fumes or emissions from your edger and they start instantly without needing a pull-start.
What Kind of Edger Should you Buy?
When choosing the kind of edger to get for your home or business, you need to consider the various benefits of each. Let’s look at the difference between petrol and electric edgers.
When you’re looking to buy a petrol edger you are probably after a powerful edger that works for a large surface area. You’ll probably have a garden or lawn that is too big for an extension cord as required by an electric edger. A petrol edger is going to be more powerful so is good for a lawn that is larger than average.
An easy-to-use and quieter choice, the electric edger is great for infrequent use or for smaller lawns where an extension cord can happily do the job of reaching.
If you don’t edge your lawn, eventually you are going to get grass growing out over your sidewalk or driveway.
Edgers let you clear up your yard or garden in the most efficient way possible, leaving you free to enjoy your garden.
Prep your edger by either getting your electrical cord ready or filling your petrol edger.
Make sure that your edger is secure (if using an electrical edger) by ensuring that the cord is out of the way. If using a petrol edger make sure that you have filled the edger safely and that the fuel cap is on correctly.
Begin by lining up your edger and setting it into the edge where you would like to cut.
Time to start! Squeeze the trigger and slowly push the edger through to cut into the grass. Your edger should cut off all of the grass that is overhanging, leaving a clear line between your lawn and your paved or other area.
Repeat until you’re all done! Make sure you dispose of your lawn clippings in the correct manner, whether you compost them or spread them over your lawn to decompose.
Tips and Warnings
When using an edger you need to make sure that you are being safe at all times. If you have an electrical edger, you need to keep the cord behind you so that you don’t risk cutting it.
